The greatest Baroque architectural heritage in Latin America takes us back to the time when Salvador was the capital of colonial Brazil. Only in the historic center are almost 500 between churches(which, some believe, are 365, one for each day for each saint, to All Saints), palaces, forts and monuments that bear witness tomemorable stories of that time. The Pelourinho, as it is affectionately called, is home to a superlative center of culture andleisure. They are art galleries, theaters, museums, pubs that maketheir walks through its streets and alleys enjoy a continuous cultureseasoned with palm oil.
The cuisine is another strong indication of the contribution in blackculture, from traditional to acarajé and abará muquecas and efós. It is the menu that supplies enough energy to keep up with festive Bahia, especially during the carnival, the largest street party in Brazil. In Bahia, the trio pulled last 7 days, african blocks, afoxés, cords popular big bands of axé and MPB parade of stars and cover the avenues of revelry with decibels.
It is this distinctive culture of the greatest pride of the city. Hail, Salvador!
